A Mustard Seed and a Mulligan

A wise farmer once said that the success of a farm depends on the success of the soil. When I first learned of Reform Wellness, my soil was not in great shape. It had been packed down and hardened from years of hard labor and the demands of raising 10 children. It had been depleted from the constant worry and stress of caring for a special-needs son. It had not been properly tended to since my hands were full of many things that (as I can now see) were not even mine to carry. As the world was pulling my body in many directions, I knew that, if I did not make changes, my gut issues, poor quality of sleep, weight gain, and feelings of being lost in the mundane would only increase.

It was time to rest, repair and uproot what did not belong. This was an act of surrender that filled me with great fear and hopeful excitement all at the same time.

The richness of the Reform pillars slowly and in simple ways renewed every aspect of my life. I entered the Reform community with such small and superficial goals. Through Reform, the Lord has given me far greater healing than my limited vision could have ever imagined.

The greatest fruit I have received is peace. It is a peace that others notice. Living in peace has created space in my life which allows me to think more clearly, make sound decisions, notice the needs of others, have greater self awareness, and see the beauty before me.

My healing crept quietly into the tiniest details of my life. I see Reform in action when my children linger a little longer at the dinner table, when belly laughs fill our home, when I can look others in the eye and sit with them in difficult places, when I respond with love, and when our home sits silent at 9:00 pm.

With fresh eyes, I can see that my Reform journey was navigated by desire. A longing that was placed on my heart by God as He led me through the pillars in a certain order and at a pace that was unique and necessary for the healing of my body and soul. This healing was deep. It was wide. It was complete.

The teachings of Reform, kneaded together with the sacraments, have washed over every aspect of my life. I feel refreshed, revived, and excited to see what lies ahead on this narrow path. I welcome a simpler way of life now—a way of life that has recently led us to purchase a farm, given me the confidence to accept photography opportunities, and reconnected me with the things I enjoyed so much when I was younger yet always circling back to consider my true duty.

It is with a grateful heart that my healing continues as a Fully Alive member of Reform Wellness. Reform is alive and led by the Holy Spirit. It has reminded me that we are made for much more than a life of mediocrity. You only need faith the size of a mustard seed to begin.

To obediently follow where You lead me, reform me, Jesus.
